Introduction
The ACS Corporation File Management Program is targeted for the Network/Server administrator, developer, or support personnel. This program allows the user to see, control and manage the client/server environment with the ability to send, receive, delete, rename and open files on either the Client computer or the Server computer. This program is stronger than other "Explorer" type programs because it supports Network Drives, FTP Drives or the Norcom Client/Server environment. Separate Explorer styled programs are not needed. The operator of this program has great power to change either Client or Server computer, therefore this permissions to execute this program should be distributed with care. This program is easy to operate and install. The dual window design translates to faster and more intuitive management of files and programs. It has more features than FTP programs. It eliminates the need for FTP processing and all the definition, security, and administration hassles that go with that process. The program does not require the Norcom Client/Server, a Server Network or FTP sit to function. It will execute in any combination.
Navigating through the folders is easy once you familiarize your self with the initial screen and it's components. The screenshot below shows the initial screen of the file management program. The left side of the screen deals with Client Side folders, files and functions. The right side of the screen deals with Server Side folders, files and functions. Both Client and Server sides have the same functions available. Either side can navigate through the folders/directories. Open, Delete or Rename files. Send files back and forth. Sort the list by name, date/time, or size in ascending or descending order.
In the ListView control below you will see 3 basic types of data for navigation.
1. The folder paths
This data is identified at the top of the ListView control by the characters "C:\". In the sample screen below, on the client side, the operator navigated from the C:\ folder down to the C:\Program Files\ folder.
2. Folders contained in the last folder path
These folders are identified by <Folder>. In the sample screen below, on the Client side, you will see folders of Adobe, Ahead, Arrowkey, ect. These folders are contained in the last folder path of C:\Program Files\
3. Files contained in the last folder path.
In the sample screen below, on the Server side, you will see files of .gif, .htm and so forth. These files are contained in the last folder path of C:\ACS Html\

Navigating or maneuvering through the folders can be accomplished in four different ways.
1. Double-Clicking a folder path or folder will show you the contents of that folder or folder path.
2. Clicking the
button will show
you the contents of the previous folder path
3. Right-Clicking a
folder or folder path will display the context menu.
Clicking the Open
menu item will show you the contents of that folder or folder path.

4. Selecting a New
Drive or Path from the Favorites Drive/Path Listbox pictured below. The contents of the
Favorites Drive/Path Listbox is
defined via the Configure Option off the File Menu. See instructions in the
File Menu for more information on
this feature.

This section describes the purpose of the program's buttons, listviews, drop-down listbox, and menu items. Many "how do I ?" questions are answered with this section. This section is comprised of four groups Functions, Sorting, Help Menu Items, File Menu Items.
There are many valuable functions that can be performed in this program. They are described below. Keep in mind that, often there is more than one method to accomplish a task. For example, selecting a client file for transmission to a server folder. You could double-click the client file, right-click, or use the multiple selection function. All the functions are described below.
Open A File
This function allows you to open a file on the Client or on the Server for
viewing, changing or general processing. To perform this
function right-click the file you wish
to open by using the context menu
option.
.
The
following screen allows you to select which program to open this file with. The
system is searched for a standard set of
windows programs (notepad, explorer, etc.). However, you might want to use a special program for a
particular file. You do this by
defining these programs to the Configuration Property Sheet. Programs defined
there will show up on the list below
for selection. For more information on defining these programs see the Configure
menu item documentation in the
File Menu section.
It is important to note: Server Side Files opened for processing are first copied to the Windows temporary folder as defined in the environmental variables. It is the file in this location which your program can modify. If you modify this file and want it back on the server, then it is up to you to copy it back. It is also up to you to delete this file if you do not want it to stay on the Client Side computer.
Attributes/Properties
This function allows you to view or change file attributes on the client or
server side. To perform this function right-click the file you wish to open and
select the Attributes/Properties context menu option.

This option
produces the picture of the screen below. Check which attributes you would like
to change and press the change button. Or, simply view the attributes and press
cancel.
Delete File(s)
This function allows you to delete a file or a group of selected files on the Client or on the Server. To
perform this function select the file(s) you wish to delete. Then press the
button or
right-click the file you wish to delete by using the
context menu option

.
You will get the following screen verifying this action. The file you are about
to delete is shown in the message.
Rename File(s)
This function allows you to rename a file or a group of selected files on the Client or on the Server. To
perform this function select a
file(s) you wish to rename. Then press the
button or
right-click the file you wish to rename by using the context menu option

You will see the following screen to rename the file with. Key the new name of the file. The old name of the file is shown in the entry field.

Send File(s) To Client
This function sends a file or a group of selected files from the Server To a Client folder or folder path. To
perform this function locate and select the
Server file with a single-click. Then locate and select the Client folder or
folder path that will contain this file with a single-click. Then you can either send the file via the
button or
right-click the Server file to bring up the context menu

and
select Send File(s) To Client.
Send A File to the Server
This function sends a file from the Client to a Server folder or folder path. To
perform this function locate and select the
Client file with a single-click. Then locate and select the Server folder or
folder path that will contain this file with a single-click. Then you can either send the file via the
button or
right-click the Client file to bring up the context menu
and select Send Client File To Server
File Selection - Selecting Multiple Files
The
first thing to understand is the "Mark" column in the ListView control. It is in
this column that you will see symbols appear indicating file selection. The
picture below shows three files in the "Mark" column selected. The selection is
designated by the "»»" symbol. Notice, unlike other programs your selections do
not have to be sequential.
There are
two ways to select more than one file before executing a function (i.e. Delete
File(s), Send To). One is to Double-Click a file. It will be marked for
selection. Double-Click again and the selection is removed. The second way to
mark a file for selection is to use the context menu. With this menu a range of
files can be selected quickly. This picture

shows
the context menu functions of the range selection. The process is like this:
Right-Click a file and select "Begin Selection Range". A large ">>>>" symbol
appears in the Mark column indicating the beginning of the range selection
process. Right-Click another file and select "End Selection Range". All files
within this range will now be marked, as selected, with the small "»»" symbol.
You can repeat this process as many times as you want before executing a
function (Delete file(s), Send To, etc.). Additionally, it does not matter
whether you select your range from top to bottom or bottom to top.
The "Clear All Selections" will remove ALL selections as indicated in the Mark column.
Folders
This
context menu item

allows
for four separate functions. The Create, Delete and Rename functions are for
folders only. They perform the functions as named. The "Add To Favorites List"
adds the selected folder/path to the Favorites Drive/Path Listbox pictured below.
There is a Server and a Client Favorites Listbox. The contents of the
Favorites Drive/Path Listbox is
defined via the Configure Option off the File Menu. See instructions in the
File Menu for more information on
this feature.

Either of the ListView controls can be sorted by pressing one of the ListView
buttons (Name, Date Time, Size) as shown here.
Pressing one of these buttons will toggle the ListView
display between ascending or descending sequence
The
Help Menu, shown here, has the following items of interest.
Help
This menu item gets you to this page.

This menu item displays the operating system or Windows Version of the Server.
About ACS Corp.
This menu item takes you to the home page of the company who authored this program.
Send Debug Info
This menu item collects a sample of data from the Client and Server then sends that data to support.
This menu should only be used if having problems with the program. This menu item will prompt you
for information as seen below. If you have problems finding any of this information, go to your email
program and look up your email account. This program will search the registry and try to fill in the
info. However, this is not always successful under windows.
Version
This menu item displays the program version number.
The
File Menu, shown here, has the following items. Since the Exit item is standard for Windows
we will only discuss the Configure item.
![]()
The Configure Menu item displays a property sheet screen as pictured below. There are four sheets within this screen that define the optional operating information to this program.
- Email Information
- Client Drives / Paths
- Server Drives / Paths
- Client Open File Program
The four property sheets are pictured and discussed individually below.
The Email Information sheet contains information needed to send Support information and questions to us. We need your email address so we can send a response back to you. For more information on these fields refer to the Debug Menu Item description in the Help Menu documentation section.

The
Favorite Client Drives and Paths sheet allows you to define which disk drives or folder
paths will be allowed for selection in the
Client Side Drive/Path Listbox. For more information on the Drive/Path Listbox
refer to the documentation about
Navigation. Items keyed here allow you to quickly jump
to a folder without navigating thru the hierarchy. The drives and paths
defined here may be keyed in or the Browse button my be used to facilitate
entry. The Browse button initiates the standard
Windows dialog box for choosing this information. You may also use the "Add To
Favorites" context menu item rather than keying or browsing to create the entry. When executed for the first
time the first entry is initialized to C:\
The second entry is initialized to the windows temporary file folder as defined
in the environmental variable. These
entries may be changed to suit your needs.
The
Favorite Server Drives and Paths sheet allows you to define which disk drives or folder
paths will be allowed for selection in the
Server Side Drive/Path Listbox. For more information on the Drive/Path Listbox
refer to the documentation about
Navigation. Items keyed here allow you to quickly jump
to a folder without navigating thru the hierarchy. The drives and paths defined
here must be keyed in. The Browse button is not supported at this time when the
program is executed in ScreenIO Server mode. It is put in for a future
enhancement. You can use the "Add To Favorites" context menu item to avoid
typing the entry. When executed for the first time the first entry is
initialized to C:\ The second entry is initialized to the windows temporary file
folder as defined in the environmental variable. These entries may be changed to
suit your needs.
The Client Open File Programs sheet allows you to define programs on the client side computer that may be used for opening, viewing or processing files. The entries made here will be displayed when the OPEN file function is selected in the program. For more information on the OPEN file function refer to the Functions documentation in the Navigation section.

Support issues involving problems should first be attempted by reading this document. Further support issues involving suspected program bugs, suggested enhancements, purchase or other issues will be via email to: ACS Corp Support Support issues will be handled more efficiently via email than phone calls. We are on often "on the road" doing business.
Why do my buttons appear different than what is in the documentation ?
The buttons in this program use a Windows font called WingDings. If your Windows system does not have this font, it will try to match the font as closely as it can. Differences can occur. This font is sent out with the package. To eliminate the differences install the font on your system. This link shows you how to install a new font: Installing A New Font
Sometimes After Copying A File from Client To Server or Visa-Versa I can't find the file, where is it ?
Probably the Client and Server operating systems don't match. That is, one of the operating systems supports long file names and the other does not. The file did copy, it is just under the short file name. Refer to the Windows documentation for a further explanation of this.
I don't see the program I want to use when opening a file, How do I use the program I want ?
You can define your own programs with the Configuration menu item. Refer to the File Menu documentation.
Why are some of the features disabled ?
You are using Demonstration version of the program. This version does not support all the features you see in the documentation. You must purchase the Production Version to use these features. Contact Support about purchase.
